Welcome to the People’s Power Energizing! Blog

I take electricity for granted, don’t you? We plug in our phones and access the electrical world of the internet without considering the cost or where it comes from. Videos, lighting, laundry – the modern world runs 24/7 due to our mastery of this most mysterious natural phenomena named electricity.

It’s really quite amazing – this ability humans have developed to channel this force.

This blog is a place to laugh or cry, be amused or angered – but definitely be motivated to understand how electricity arrives to our homes and businesses and how we can get control of the currently out-of-control rate increases from our regional for-profit monopoly: SDGE.

Dr. Adam R Aron is the author of The Climate Crisis and professor of psychology at UCSD. His research and teaching focus is on the social science of collective action on climate change.
Carolyn Chase is the founder of San Diego Earth Day and was a key partner in managing the EarthFair in Balboa Park for 31 years. Over that time she worked with and activated more than 8,000 volunteers. She also served for five years on the City of San Diego’s Planning Commission, reviewing and making decisions on city land use projects.
Mark Hughes has a BSME in Mechanical Engineering from Kansas State University. He spent his career in the power generation industry, first working with coal-fired power plants and later with gas turbine-driven generator sets. He’s done consulting work at both investor-owned and municipal power plants, and worked for Kansas City Power and Light for some years.
Bill Powers, P.E.
Bill is a registered professional engineer. Bill has extensive knowledge and experience in the fields of energy and environmental engineering, air emissions control, and regional energy planning. He is a qualified expert witness before the California Public Utilities Commission.
Craig D. Rose was a reporter at The San Diego Union-Tribune for 21 years. He covered the energy beat  for a decade. He is a founder of Public Power San Diego and lives in Tierrasanta.
Frances Yasmeen Motiwalla is a political organizer from Chicago who ran for Congress in Los Angeles (CA-34) in 2020. She’s spent most of her adult life organizing with Peace Action for a peaceful, sustainable US foreign policy, and continues to do so as Activist San Diego’s liaison with Grassroots Global Justice.
